The NATO summit in the Hague emphasized increasing the defence budget up to 5% and all the major countries agreed to the decision. According to analysts the decision was made in the NATO 2025 summit which was held in the Hague where the US acceded to countries to increase their military budgets to 5% to overcome all the leading conflicts and for regional peace stability. Many countries showed serious concerns over the decision to increase military budget but overall majority of the countries agreed to increase military budget.
US president Donald trump:
US president Donald trump stressed that the decision of NATO is a win for Washington. Earlier Donald Trump requested NATO countries to increase their military budget but many countries opposed the decision of Donald Trump. Now majority of the countries agreed to increase military defense and budget with mutual agreements to overcome middle east tension and also to maintain regional stability and growth. Donald Trump earlier directed countries to increase their budgets so that the burden of military budgets could be shared. Donald Trump emphasized this is his efforts that the military budget is increasing and it’s a big win for Washington.
Spain and Italy views on budget increase agreement:
Spain prime minister Pedro Sanchez showed serious concerns over an increase in budget agreement. He emphasized it’s impossible to meet the Military budget agreement. While on the other hand prime minister of Italy Giorgia Meloni supported the agreement to increase defence budget and she said the bill is flexible to achieve and Italy can easily achieve the required target. She clearly mentioned not even a single euro will be used from other other budget priorities which are already set for citizens of Italy. Meloni emphasized that the budget is flexible and it doesn’t mention how countries could reach the target.
Time frame for NATO budget:
Earlier the NATO budget was 2.5% and now the countries are set to increase defence budget up to 5% with a time frame to reach it till 2035. Countries will present ideas to achieve the military target and to increase their spendings on the military. 3.5% of budget spendings are set for troops and core defence requirements while the remaining 1.5% GDP is set for infrastructure, cyber security and other industries. The NATO countries will review the progress to attain a 5% military budget in 2029 and a progress report will be submitted. NATO countries are agreed mutually to increase defence projects and budget.
Growing tensions due to threads of Russia:
The countries agreed to increase the budget due to threats from Russia and to overcome military threats. Russian officials say it’s impossible for NATO countries to achieve the required target and it will result in the collapse of NATO alliance countries. Russian officials criticised US policies and called it a catastrophic destruction for NATO. Russia is planning to cut its defence budget due to a massive increase in budget almost 6.3% in 2025. Experts are predicting it will be difficult for most of the countries to increase their military budget to a required point.
Concerns due to increase in military budget:
Experts accentuated that the increase in military budget could disturb other sectors’ growth including environmental projects and other projects for the growth of citizens. Already countries like spain and slovakia showed concerns on increase in military budgets and find it difficult to achieve. On the other hand countries like the UK are planning to increase military budgets to 4% till 2029. Countries like France and Germany are also planning to increase their military budgets.
According to analysts the increase in budget spendings will create jobs in industries sectors and also in the defence sector for lots of people. The countries are accentuated to adjust the target as needed by a time frame of 3 years. The budget is appreciated by many countries including England and Germany. The budget will overcome leading growth problems and also the threads from opposing countries.
