Increase in fares:
After the increase in petrol prices it is expected that the transport services will get expensive in Pakistan. Local buses will increase their fares to meet the target of increase in petrol prices. On the other side local transport owners will suffer as due to increase in petrol prices customers will decrease and this will be concerning for them.
Inflation and other sectors:
It is expected that this increase in petrol prices will lead to inflation as vice versa food products and other things prices will increase. The government will fail to maintain the prices due to increase in inflation. Beside this the government of Pakistan is planning to launch programs for middle class people such as loan programs and different schemes so that they can live a better life in this growing inflation.
Reason behind increase in petrol prices:
The Iran-Israel conflict is the main reason for the increase in petrol prices as according to the government of Pakistan the strait of Hormuz is closed and Iran has stopped exporting oil in the world due to which petrol prices have increased. Iran earlier warned the world that the conflict will bring serious concerns and now the world can see as already there is a hike in petrol prices in the majority of the world’s countries. Beside this the other reason behind the increase in petrol prices is to make the economy stable and to achieve the targets set by the IMF.
The government urged that if significant steps wouldn’t taken, Pakistan’s economy could collapse due to the failure of the past government. The petrol and diesel prices have increased in the majority of the world due to conflict between Iran and Israel.
America warned Iran to prevent the closure of the strait of Hormuz as it can result in further escalation and the United States will prevent the closure through interference of its army. The ministry of finance approved the bill and OGRA will implement the new prices all over the country.
Reaction of People on increase in petrol prices:
Poor people urged that the government already presented the budget bill in which there was an increase in prices of goods and many food items. Now this sudden increase will lead to chaos as people will struggle. Already many transport owners increased the fares of transport prices due to increase in petrol prices. One user on Twitter stressed that the government should take immediate steps to lower the prices of petrol. Other users criticised the Government of Pakistan and emphasised that the government of Pakistan should lower prices of food items or launch new initiatives to help poor people.
Flights tickets; Foreign Pakistanis:
According to analysts the prices of flight tickets will also increase due to the hike in petrol prices. An increase of 25 to 50 thousand is expected in plane tickets for economy class. The comfort and business class will face more increases in prices and this will affect the traveling hours of many people. The increase in fares of flights will also affect students who are studying in foreign universities as it will be difficult for them to buy tickets so that they can meet their family every year.
Conclusion:
The increase in petrol prices will lead to inflation in Pakistan. Experts predicted earlier that tension in the middle east region will affect the economy of Pakistan and will increase inflation in the country. It will be worth mentioning that if China and Iran made a deal on the strait of Hormuz matter as China is getting pressurised by the US, the petrol prices might decrease or the leading chaos could end.
