Pakistan ranks last in the gender gap report of world Economic forums. According to recent reports the progress of Pakistan in the gander gap was even worse than last year. The gender gap score of Pakistan in 2025 was 56.7 which was slightly 0.3% lower than 2024. In 2023 the gender gap score of Pakistan was 57.7 and in two recent consecutive years Pakistan’s position got lower in the gender gap even worse than India, Bangladesh, Iran and other neighbouring countries. There are plenty of reasons why women in Pakistan are struggling for their rights and let’s discuss them.
Islamic card against women’s:
Not all but surely few scholars use Islamic cards against women and always try their best to suppress their rights. A recent bill was passed by the government and signed by president of pakistan Asif Zardari in which girls aged lower than 18 are slightly prohibited from getting married and if any person will force them to get married that person will face heavy fine and jail. The bill was supported by feminists, social influencers and social platforms. The scholar objected to the government decision and accentuated it against teachings of islam. PPP leader Sharmila Farooqi emphasized the bill had nothing to do with Islam, the bill was passed to protect women’s rights.
Honour killing against women’s in Pakistan; A sad reality even in 2025:
Women in 2017 expected Pakistan to be a better place for living in 2025 but they were so wrong. According to a gender gap report, even in 2025 Pakistani women are getting killed due to honour killing, with many unreported cases from South Punjab and Sindh districts. The Pmln Government slightly failed to protect women rights. Even Maryam Nawaz being a female CM slightly failed to protect women rights even though she did a wonderful job in other sectors including investment opportunities, easy laptops, E buses and many other initiatives in Punjab.
Rape cases in Pakistan:
In the holy book of Muslims their last prophet Hazrat Muhammad clearly mentioned: “ Men are the protectors of women” But sadly his followers forget what he said. According to reports more than 900 women’s in Pakistan face rape, violence, harassment and honour killing annually which is very concerning for women’s. According to a survey conducted by online forums women in Pakistan face harassment from people they know including their friends, family members, office mates and more. figures are quite concerning and heartbreaking that few women in Pakistan have no right even to choose a partner for marriage by their own will.
Lack of education in Pakistan:
In Pakistan the majority of women living in backward areas have no access to basic education rights which is a concerning point. On the other hand many men still believe if women get higher education it will be a danger to them therefore they don’t pay for women education. Women make only 22.8% jobs in economic and other office jobs while all the other staff are men. Many women complain they don’t get equal salaries as compared to men and most of the time they are not even encouraged by their good work.
Crimes against women in past:
There were many horrible crimes against women’s in the past including famous case of zainab ansari in which a seven year old girl was allegedly raped by a man. The other case was from the capital of pakistan where a 27 year old young girl noor Mukadam was raped and then killed by her own friend. The law and justice system in Pakistan is very time taking and it takes years to get justice. Most of the time victims’ families lose hope and most of the time they take the case back just to protect their family honour and name.
Jinnah the leader of Pakistan:
Muhammad ali jinnah who was the founder of Pakistan accentuated women have equal rights and representation in Pakistan as of men. But sadly women most of the time suffer in Pakistan. Jinnah’s own sister Fatima Jinnah was the idol of many people and she stood side by side of his brother in the creation of a separate country for muslims.
Choose of profession:
Many women don’t have the choice to choose a profession of their own will. Most of the time they get forced by their parents and guardians to adopt a profession of their will. According to a survey , women participation in fields of media and private jobs is decreasing from years 2022 onwards. Most of the time they want to leave their households and start a new life without any toxicity and violence.
Conclusion:
The participation of women in jobs is decreasing which is quite concerning. The government should take initiatives for free education of women and also for a better work place for them. There should be serious punishment against these wolves in the shape of men who are harassing women and are roaming free. The government should start new programs for women in Punjab and all over the world through which they participate in jobs and stand with men. Aurat march foundation and other foundations for women’s should be encourage to support rape victims and other women’s who move from their toxic households.
