SCO Pakistan and Shanghai Cooperation Organisation trade

Pakistan is planning to establish good trade relations with the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation for economic growth and to increase exports of the country. Pakistan is planning to establish more strong trade relations with the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation. Pakistan is focusing to increase the country’s economy and to invest in many projects like tourism, healthcare, hydropower projects and to increase trade.

Shanghai Cooperation organisation members

The Shanghai cooperation includes 8 states:

  • India
  • ● Pakistan
  • ● Iran
  • ● Tajikistan
  • ● Kazakhstan
  • ● Kyrgyzstan
  • ● Uzbekistan

Belarus is a new addition in the member’s list who joined Shanghai cooperation in July 2024. Iran also joined in 2023 and now it’s an active member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation.

Pakistan standing:

Pakistan wants to increase trade relations with the members of Shanghai cooperation. Pakistan and China have strong relations with each other. Both countries invested in many projects including gawadar port , orange line metro train , Peshawar Karachi motorway and also in many energy products. The key approach of Pakistan is to establish good relations with other members of Shanghai cooperation too, especially with Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

Pakistan wants investment in projects like transportation, energy systems and also in construction of infrastructure in the country. The investment with Shanghai Cooperation can increase Pakistan’s economy and also can increase trade investments of the country.

China and Kazakhstan are key members of generating electricity and by investing with them Pakistan can overcome its need for electricity.

Investment opportunities:

The Pakistani finance team has hope that Pakistan will get investment opportunities from members of Shanghai cooperation. Pakistan wants investment in energy, infrastructure and health care projects to overcome the burden the economy is facing right now. Shanghai cooperation also provides a vast opportunity to Pakistan for addressing the challenges and to get investments from countries.

Pakistan has to invest in its streamline projects to get the attention of most of the members of Shanghai cooperation. Pakistan can get investments from many states of the Shanghai cooperation and it gives hope to the country for economic growth and for trade investments.

Pakistan became an official member of Shanghai cooperation in 2017 when the meeting of Shanghai cooperation was conducted in Kazakhstan. To promote regional stability and to overcome the challenges Pakistan’s economy is facing right now Pakistan needs investments from members of Shanghai Cooperation and also Pakistan has to establish good relations with members of Shanghai cooperation including India.

Shanghai Cooperation history:

Shanghai cooperation was established in 1996. Firstly it was known as Shanghai five because five countries were its members. The countries were China, Russia , Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. When Uzbekistan joined the Shanghai five then its name changed from Shanghai five to Shanghai cooperation organisation.

Pakistan was given observer status in 2005 and in 2017 Pakistan fully joined Shanghai cooperation. The Shanghai cooperation worked on many projects including tourism, energy projects, infrastructure and also it promoted regional security. The organisation facilitated trade and investment opportunities between the members.

Pakistan wants to establish good relations with all members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation.
