WHO Persuades ban on Flavour Nicotine Products

World tobacco day is celebrated all over the globe on 31 May. World health organisations persuade a complete ban on flavour nicotine products including cigarettes and vape.

World Health Organisation:

Dr Tedros the Director General of the world health organisation encourages ban on nicotine products as it can be addictive. He added this increase of nicotine products among the new generation is concerning and there should be a complete ban on nicotine products.

Ban on nicotine products:

Many countries take action against the sale of nicotine products and ban them . Countries including Bhutan, Brazil , Argentina , Uganda , North Korea, Oman , Iran, Srilanka, Syria , Singapore, Thailand , Egypt , Qatar , Lebanon and Gambia banned E-cigarettes.

Many countries set an age limit to buy nicotine products and many countries set an amount limit for nicotine and cigarette sales. Many countries even ban advertisements of nicotine products to protect the younger generation from use of nicotine products. In Austria you might need a doctor prescription if you are looking to buy nicotine products.

Nicotine use in Pakistan:

Younger generation in Pakistan is more addicted to E-ciggrates. The revenue of E-cigarettes is increasing annually and there is no ban on E-cigarettes in Pakistan.

On a large scale of youngster’s aged 17-24 are addicted to E-cigarettes and this increase is raising serious health concerns. According to research , people from Balochistan use cigarettes more commonly. Even vaping products are available online in stores like Vape bazaar and vape online from where the younger generation can easily order nicotine products online.

A recent study shows almost 25-30% of the population of Pakistan is cigarette addict or they use flavour nicotine for smoking. This is a serious health hazard that can result in many diseases. Smoking is more common in male population of Pakistan.

Effects of nicotine on Health:

Nicotine can cause following diseases including:

  1. Cardiovascular diseases including heart attack, coronary artery diseases, blockage and can result in stroke
  2. Nicotine can result in cancer most commonly lung cancer but in some condition it can also cause Mouth cancer
  3. In pregnant females it decreases the chances of pregnancy
  4. Also in males it can result in fertility
  5. Nicotine can also affect brain growth and development and it can result in memory loss and short term memory

Passive smoking is also very dangerous and you should always avoid being in a place where someone is smoking. Nicotine products are addictive and it can result in many diseases.

Death’s due to use of excessive tobacco:

According to WHO almost 80 lakh people die annually from use of excessive nicotine. Most people come with diseases like mouth cancer , throat cancer and cardiovascular diseases. In many cases tobacco can cause respiratory diseases, most commonly chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder.

The WHO encourages people to impose a strict ban on tobacco products and also restrict the sale of tobacco to minors. “Impose taxes on tobacco products” world health organisation officials said in a meeting.

The World Health organisation wants to protect the younger generation from addiction to nicotine and flavour products therefore encouraging countries to put a complete ban on tobacco.

Nicotine use is increasing day by day and it can cause many diseases in the future to which people are unaware. There should be advertisements about prevention of nicotine products to guide youth. Vapes were introduced to eliminate the use of cigarette products but now this vaping culture is increasing among youth which is very concerning.
